As you can tell, I had a lot of time with Love and Reverie. I haven't taken band pictures in a long time so this is a first in 5 years. Yay! Anyway, I have been shooting on manual so I'm so happy they even look decent! *whew* Yeah I had fun tonight. Tonight I was handed lemons and I made lemonade! haha
Having taken in one of my son's friends, my eyes have been opened to what life is like on the streets for teens (and for some who aren't on the streets).
Keep in mind that I'm talking about teens anywhere from 14 to 18.
Some of these kids live at the teen shelter because their parents kicked them out. We personally know 6 teen girls who were kicked out of their own homes when they got pregnant.
They have no supervision, no role models, and no one to hold them accountable. They steal food and clothes out of necessity.
Other kids live at home with their parents, but their parents sell drugs to the kid's friends to make money. Some of the kids who live at home don't eat for days. Their parents don't buy groceries or cook meals, buy them clothes, or provide for any of their needs. These kids don't shower for weeks at a time because they weren't taught the basics. Their days revolve around buying and selling drugs, getting people to buy them alcohol and cigarettes, and stealing if they're hungry.
I'm talking about Maine. Did you know that?
They form gangs because that's the only family they can find. They have to act tough to protect themselves.
No wonder the teen suicide rate keeps climbing. These kids are treated like they are disposable by their own parents, as well as society.
I think it's getting worse because funding for after-school programs was cut a long time ago for kids over 12 years old. After that, the kids are on their own. That takes away a safe and nurturing place to go for these kids. For some kids, that is the only place they can get a meal and not get yelled at.
It is so sad. I wish I could do more, but I haven't figured out what that is yet.
I don't know if you've heard, but Yahoo has run out of email addresses. They have to be so cryptic now in order to even get one that they've done something about it. They've created two other extensions - @ymail.com and @rocketmail.com - both of which are pretty easy to remember.
Today I went and reserved my full name as a @ymail.com address so now I have something a bit more professional if I ever need it. I remember when I was trying to apply for jobs - AGES ago it seems - I always was a bit embarrassed about giving out my, then, email address. It was totally complicated: maura_ea_celelstin[at]yahoo.com and no one ever seemed to get it right the first time. While my new @yahoo.com email address is easier to relay it's still not very professional.
I decided to try and snag Paul's full name too (he's actually applying for jobs right now), but unfortunately it wasn't available on either of the new extensions. I got crafty though and just added an underscore between the first and last night and it worked :) Shocking how many Paul's there are though!
Kind of off topic, but can anyone suggest a name that has "link" in it? Paul and I were jokingly considering names with "link" in it (such as Lincoln) so we could give our son that as a middle name and call him Link like out of the Zelda Nintendo games! I know it probably makes all of you guys gag - but I really want to give my kids interesting stories for their names - without giving them really strange names. Case in point: My practically-brother Jose named his daughter Harley-Quinn from the Batman series. I think Harley is a pretty good name for a girl, easy to spell and pronouce, but now she's got a pretty cool story to go along with her name.
Anyhow, you bunch think about it and get back to me :P
I've seen this book before, but it just came up again and its still just as unbelievable. I mean, I'm a liberal guy but these books are ridiculous. They basically paint the Democratic party as the saviors of the human race without any kind of opposing view. And even if it had an opposing viewpoint, its targeted toward children. Children don't know why (as an example in the book) funding the fire department is important or what the trade offs are if you don't. These books are pure, brain washing, shameful propaganda. I'm reminded of the poor kids I used to see in college who came with the fanatical preacher who would talk in front of the student union. They would walk around with signs that said "Jesus hates fags". When you'd talk to them they'd give scripted, robotic answers back about what the Lord says. These books are full of scripted thought and are no different.
I knew my Suncatcher Eyes wouldn't be the only hand-painted eyes on the market forever, but once it finally happened it was a punch in the stomach.
This seller is using photographs of hand-painted eyes that were staged just the way mine are on clear plastic canvas, descriptions that are very close to mine, and tags and materials that also closely resemble mine.
It's a terrible feeling to be copied, but I'm trying to look on the bright side: This will make me work even harder to get the word out about my products.
